GRAMMAR ACTIVITIES IN THE PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE TEXTBOOK

Abstract

The various complaints by Portuguese language teachers generally concern grammar issues. The reason for such complaints involves activities proposed in the textbook, as they are not centered on use. Considering, therefore, that the textbook is one of the main didactic resources, our object of study, in this article, focuses on the typology of grammatical activities revealed in the textbook of the Portuguese language. For this, we aim, in general, to analyze how grammar activities are developed in the Portuguese textbook with a focus on the study of the noun word class. The theoretical contribution is based on the functionalist approach, from Halliday (2004). The investigation takes place through a detailed analysis of the units in relation to the grammar activities in the book Tecendo Linguagens: Língua Portuguesa (volume of the 6th year), by Tânia Amaral de Oliveira and Lucy Aparecida Melo Araújo, published by Editora FTD, in 2018. The results of this investigation reveal that the main focus of the activities analyzed in the Portuguese language manual is still focused on teaching grammar with activities that honor the form and not the use.
